Andris Liepa

People’s Artist of Russia, world ballet star, brilliant director-choreographer. Graduated from Moscow Academy of Choreography and was invited to the Bolshoi Ballet. Appeared in the leading parts of its numerous celebrated productions. Worked in the New York City Ballet, and in American Ballet Theatre where he played Siegfried (“Swan Lake”) in Mikhail Baryshnikov’s production; also, appeared in Kenneth McMillan’s “Romeo and Juliet” and George Balanchine’s “Violin Concerto”. Former soloist of the Kirov Ballet (St. Petersburg). Authored the cinematographic project “The Return of the Firebird” that included three masterpieces by the legendary Mikhail Fokine “Petrouchka”, “The Firebird” and “Shekherezada”. He danced the leading parts in all the productions that he restored. He is the laureate of several International contests. Together with his sister llse, he created the Maris Liepa Charity Fund in memory of their father, the Bolshoi Ballet’s legendary dancer who had a great influence on male dance in Russia. The Fund sponsored many notable events and projects that proved to be true art festivities, like New Year galas and New Year children’s events in the Gostiny Dvor and Manezh (Moscow); annual tributes to Maris Liepa (Riga, Latvia) to name just a few. He is the inspiration and the director, the manager and the producer of “The Russian Seasons – 21st Century” project.
